Sleep is an act of deep surrender. When we sleep, what we are actually doing is deeply surrendering. In that moment, we are trusting and letting go and effectively letting our unconscious take over.
When we are coming from a maladaptive stress response and a dysregulated nervous system, it can feel very difficult to surrender. It can feel like we need to be in this state of constant activity in our mind or body. This manifests in different ways in sleep issues, including can’t get to sleep, can’t stay asleep and can’t get quality sleep.
